In today’s fast-paced world, many of us wear multiple hats. For me, those hats are engineer, entrepreneur, coach, mentor, strategist, creator, and more. As the Plurapreneur® that I have become, I know that juggling these roles while maintaining balance can be a daunting task. It requires extreme and rigorous time management. Time management is not just a skill; it's the foundation upon which all of my successes now rest. Without it, the very ventures that fueled my passion would have lead to fruitless burnout.

My Plurapreneur® Dilemma

Becoming the Plurapreneur® meant I needed to embrace diversity in my professional life. Whether I was leading a systems engineering team, managing my Perimeter Zen rental venue, coaching clients on bulding businesses while maintaining life balance, or working on creative projects like my container home, the challenge has always involved managing these ventures effectively without sacrificing my well-being. So here are some strategies that have helped me along the way. They can help you too navigate that intricate dance.

I. Prioritize Ruthlessly

Always remind yourself that not all tasks are created equally. Start by identifying your top priorities. You can categorize the tasks you are working by urgency and importance using the following ranking:

  • Urgent and Important: Do these immediately.
  • Important but Not Urgent: Schedule these tasks.
  • Urgent but Not Important: Delegate if possible.
  • Neither Urgent nor Important: Eliminate or postpone.

By focusing on what truly matters, you can avoid getting bogged down by less critical tasks. This process will help you remove distractions in your life.

II. Time Block Like a Pro

Time blocking has been a game-changer for me. You do that by allocating specific blocks of time for each venture you have, thereby ensuring you give undivided attention to each one. This approach prevents tasks from overlapping and competing with one another. And keep this in mind: it's not just about managing your time; it’s also about protecting your energy.

III. Have the Balls to Say 'No'

The ability to say "no" is ballsy. It's also a superpower. As I evolved into becoming the Plurapreneur®, I received countless requests for my time and expertise, often on a pro bono basis. However, not every opportunity aligned with my goals. So I became very selective about where I invested my energy. Saying "no" to what didn't serve me created space for what truly mattered to me. I'm still eternally grateful for learning when and how to say "no" when it truly matters.

IV. Automate or Delegate

I don't always have the human help I think I need. So when I stretch my creative and technical muscles, I start maximizing my efficiency by automating tasks as much as possible or delegating when possible. Whether it's using a software application to streamline operations or hiring help for real estate development activities, these ways of freeing up my time always allow me to focus on high-impact activities that drive my growth.

V. Set Boundaries—Don't Be Scared

Through the years I have figured out that clear boundaries are essential for maintaining work-life harmony. Do a favor for yourself and define when you’ll work and when you’ll rest. Then respectfully communicate these boundaries to clients, partners, and loved ones. They may take some time to warm up to your boundaries. However, protecting your personal time is just as crucial as hitting business milestones or taking part in important social and familial engagements.

Set boundaries and have crucial conversations.

VI. Practice Self-Care as a Non-Negotiable Activity

Burnout doesn’t just happen overnight. We often think of burnout that way, but it is the result of neglecting your well-being over extending periods of time. Some poeple like to pretend as if everything is okay until their bodies finally give them unforgettable warnings through illness or failing health. You must incorporate self-care into your routine as a non-negotiable priority. Whether it’s exercising, meditating, or simply taking a break, these practices rejuvenate your mind and body, allowing you to show up as your best self. #BeYourBestYOU.

VII. Reflect and Adjust Regularly

I periodically review my time management strategy. I ask myself the following questions: "What’s working? What’s not? Am I moving closer to my goals?" Reflecting on my progress allows me to make necessary adjustments and refine my approaches to every new situation that arises in my life. Remember, time management is an evolving practice, not a set-it-and-forget-it task. And you get better at it only if you do everything else I mentioned previously.

In Conclusion

Time management mastery is the key to thriving as a Plurapreneur®. By prioritizing effectively, protecting your time, and honoring your personal needs, you can balance multiple ventures without burning out. Success in this journey is about more than just ticking off tasks; it’s about creating a life that aligns with your values, passions, and vision. Stay committed to your path, and remember: true balance is achieved when you’re at peace with how you spend your time.
